ABG signs joint venture agreement in North America

Australian Biodiesel Group has signed a joint venture agreement with ArcLight Capital Partners LLC, a specialized private equity firm exclusively focused on the energy industry.

Under the terms of the agreement, ABG USA Ltd. (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Australian Biodiesel Group Limited) and the private equity firm will form a joint venture entity to assess, and if approved, develop biodiesel manufacturing facilities in North America. Each party will contribute up to US$50 million to the joint venture.

 
DuPont outlines challenges and opportunities in crop production over the next decade

Australian Biofuels Group dowgrades sales and profits forecasts

Following an uncertain half to the year ABG (the Australian Biofuels Group) has announced revised sales and profit forecasts for 2006. In its 2005 Prospectus, ABG Limited forecast a Net Profit After Tax (NPAT) of $8.17 million for the 2006 year, based on anticipated sales of biodiesel only.

UK-based Stagecoach to test first bioethanol bus outside London

Stagecoach, one of the largest public transport operators in the UK, is to conduct the first trials of a bioethanol powered bus outside London. It says this may lead to the company's vehicles being powered by sugar beets in the future.
 
A Scania OmniLink ethanol bus is being tested for two weeks from 14 August to evaluate the green technology for potential use in Stagecoach's 8,000-vehicle fleet in the UK. The pilot study vehicle will operate in cities in the north of England: Liverpool, Barnsley, Sheffield, Newcastle and Manchester.

GSPI consortium commits to five biofuel plants

Sandia National Laboratories and Monsanto announce cooperative research agreement

Sandia National Laboratories and Monsanto Company today (9th August) announced a three-year research collaboration that is expected to play a role in both organizations' interests in biology and bioenergy. The arrangement is aimed at aligning Sandia's capabilities in bioanalytical imaging and analysis with Monsanto's research in developing new seed-based products for farmers, including corn products that may be able to produce more ethanol per bushel. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Xethanol forms BlueRidgeXethanol LLC to expand into new region

Xethanol Corporation announced today (9th August) that it has organized BlueRidgeXethanol, LLC to spearhead it's expansion into the Carolinas. BlueRidge has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire its first production plant. The facility, located in Spring Hope, North Carolina, is a former medium-density fiberboard factory. The plant has an excellent existing infrastructure that can readily be converted to production of ethanol. It will be re-engineered to support a 35 million gallons per year plant.

FuelMeister II personal biodiesel processor doubles throughput

Biodiesel Solutions Inc., a maker of personal biodiesel processors, has released its second generation product. The new FuelMeister II allows individuals to make Biodiesel for about 70 cents per gallon, the company says. It can produce 80 gallons of biodiesel per day, twice that of the original FuelMeister, which has sold over 2,000 units worldwide.
 
The FuelMeister II can make biodiesel fuel from waste fryer oil that owners can often collect from restaurants for free. Every year restaurants in the United States produce over 3 billion gallons of used cooking oil, says the company.

Cargill announces plans for biodiesel facility in Kansas City

Cargill and the Missouri Soybean Association (MSA) today (8th August) announced plans for a 40-million gallon-per-year biodiesel plant and 30-million-pound food-grade glycerin refinery adjacent to Cargill’s existing soybean processing facility in Kansas City. Plans call for the facility to be jointly owned by Cargill and Paseo Biofuels, LLC, a new entity to be formed by Missouri soybean farmers and MSA. Pending regulatory and other approvals, construction on the facility is planned to start this fall, with biodiesel production projected to commence in the summer of 2007.
