Penn State scientists use 'microbial fuel cell' to generate electricity from corn waste

After the corn harvest, whether for cattle feed or corn on the cob, farmers usually leave the stalks and stems in the field, but now, a team of Penn State researchers thinks corn stover can be used not only to manufacture ethanol, but to generate electricity directly.

Globex claims new method of hydrolyzing biomass from pulp and paper residues

California considers banning low-level ethanol blends in favour of E85

When MTBE was banned in California in 2003, low-level blends of ethanol entered the market. Now, California state air regulators are concerned about increases in evaporative and tailpipe emissions from low-level ethanol blended gasoline.

Commissioner Piebalgs has been invited to Scotland by the SNP's European Spokesman Alyn Smith MEP and will spend two days with Mr Smith seeing Scotland's potential as the 'Clean Energy Capital of Europe'.
