Indonesia and Malaysia co-operate on biofuels

Jakarta, June 23 - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia and visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi met Tuesday in Jakarts to discuss the progress of a number of collaboration agreements in the energy and palm oil sectors.

Brazil: hydrated ethanol sales drop 14.8% in a month

Sales of hydrated ethanol totalled 333 million litres in April 2006, 14.8% below sales in March and 2.11% below April 2005, according to data released today by the Brazilian National Petroleum Agency (ANP). In April, when ethanol prices reached all-time highs, consumption was at its lowest level for fifteen months after having peaked in December 2005 when it reached a total of 509 million litres.

iVoice announces plans to enter alternative energy sector

iVoice, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board: IVOI), a developer and licensor of proprietary technologies, announced today additional plans to enter the alternative energy sector. The Company is currently in final negotiations to acquire a company that will own the rights to biodiesel technology, the fastest growing alternative fuel in America. iVoice will hold a majority interest in the new venture permitting it to consolidate the performance of these operations for financial reporting purposes.. The new venture, which is attempting to acquire a location in the southeastern U.S. to locate the biodiesel facility, has already received indications that a customer would enter into a contract to purchase the biodiesel, as soon as the facility is in commercial production.

"We are excited to be in the final stages of securing the technology and a suitable location to build a biodiesel plant," said iVoice Chairman and CEO Jerry Mahoney. "With energy prices near record levels, companies are increasingly turning to alternative energy providers to develop solutions. We are pleased that in a short period of time we will be in position to contribute to the country's efforts to secure a reliable alternative source of energy." 

 
Japan and Brazil discuss ethanol alliance

Tokyo, June 22 - At meetings in Rio de Janeiro recently, representatives fom Japan and Brazil have been holding talks to discuss ways to increase trade between the two countries. Japan seeks a trade pact with Brazil, and a primary reason for that pact, from Japan's point of view, is ethanol.  Japan has limited natural energy resouces, not least amongst energy crops, since the county's limited land area is devoted to food production.

IEA to publish first sustainable energy report

Meeting at the Gleneagles Summit in May 2005, energy ministers recognised that current trends in energy consumption are not sustainable economically, environmentally or socially. These political leaders called upon the International Energy Agency (IEA) to propose alternative energy scenarios and strategies for achieving a “clean, clever and competitive energy future”. The report 'World Energy Outlook 2006' is the first in what is intended to be a series of annual reports, the purpose of which is to investigate the development of a sustainable energy future.

Australia: National Party Senator defects in biofuel tax row

Canberra, June 22 - Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce has said today that he is ready to vote against his own party in order to force them to change the Fuel Tax Bill.  Opposition Democrat Leader Senator Lyn Allison has proposed an amendment to the Bill which will see greater tax rebates for producers, and which she (and Senator Joyce) believe will be vital in ensuring the health of the nascent biofuels industry in Australia.
