Holland: Bioethanol Rotterdam to open 100,000 ton/yr plant

Rotterdam, June 20 - Bio-ethanol Rotterdam (BER) have announced that they will open a 100,000 ton/yr ethanol plant in late 2007. Chemical Processing Consult (CPC), HES Beheer and the Holland Innovation Team are the main initiators behind the new plant, which will provide 40 jobs in the local community.

Holland: TPG Post moves to biodiesel

Amsterdam's TPG Post is moving to 100% biodiesel. TPG's fleet consists of 56 delivery vans, which are used to deliver packages six days a week in and around the Amsterdam area. The project aims to make the vehicles less polluting for both people and the environment. The delivery vans will consume around 120,000 litres of biodiesel per year.

DuPont and BP link to bring next generation biofuels to market

BP and DuPont have today (20th June) announced the creation of a partnership to develop, produce and market a next generation of biofuels to help meet increasing global demand for renewable transport fuels.

BP and DuPont have been working together since 2003 to develop advanced biofuels with properties that can help overcome the limitations of existing biofuels. That work has now progressed to the point where they are able to bring the first jointly developed product to market. The companies' joint strategy is to deliver advanced biofuels that will provide improved options for expanding energy supplies and accelerate the move to renewable transportation fuels which lower overall greenhouse gas emissions.

5-year study shows driving on ethanol cheaper than gasoline

A long-term study conducted in Brazil by CEPEA has concluded that it is cheaper to use ethanol than gasoline.  The study compared prices of ethanol with those of gasoline over a period of five years (July 2001 to April 2006). It then measured the energy content of batches of ethanol available at the pump (ethanol has an energy content of between 60 and 70% of gasoline's). Finally, analysing the average mileage of flex-fuel vehicles, the study calculates the relative economy of each fuel type.

Green Energy Resources prepares first wood biomass IPO

New York, June 19 - Green Energy Resources Inc. plans to launch the first wood biomass IPO on London's Alternative Investment Market (AIM). Wood cellulose is a feedstock with greater long-term potential for ethanol and biodiesel production than corn. Green Energy Resources has been working toward an AIM listing since December 2005.
 
The company is an international supplier of wood biomass for clean coal technology, gasification, biofuels (ethanol and biodiesel) and direct burn energy to power plants. The company has access to over 30 million tons of wood, according to CEO Joseph Murray. Green Energy Resources has recently hired a CFO to accelerate the timetable.

Chevron commits up to $12 million for advanced research into cellulosic biofuels and hydrogen

Following the setting up of a specialist biofuels business unit at the end of May, Chevron Corporation has further announced that it has formed a strategic research alliance with Georgia Institute of Technology to pursue advanced technology aimed at making cellulosic biofuels and hydrogen viable transportation fuels.

Chevron Technology Ventures, a subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, plans to collaborate with Georgia Tech's Strategic Energy Institute and contribute up to $12 million over five years for research into and development of these emerging energy technologies.
