Abengoa has announced (24th September) a temporary stoppage of its Salamanca biofuel facility. It highlights the delay in compulsory objectives becoming effective, the ongoing legislative development and the current price level of cereals for the temporary suspension of operations. Nevertheless the company says the stoppage will not affect contracts signed by Abengoa Bioenergía, which will be fully complied with.

Abengoa considers the current cereal market situation to be temporary and due mainly to climate factors, increased demand from emerging countries and the entry of speculative traders into the market. It believes the situation will be normalised in 2008 with the entry of new crop areas providing a substantial increase in available feedstock.
