The european ethanol sector has launched a new trade association. The IEA (Industrial Ethanol Association) groups synthetic ethanol producers INEOS, PetroSA Europe, and Sasol Solvents Germany.  IEA’s objective is to represent the interests of this sector to policymakers and other industry groups in order to promote fair competition and maintain a healthy European ethanol market.

The IEA has been formed at a time when ethanol is increasingly high on the political agenda due to the focus on biofuels.  IEA members are manufacturers of synthetic ethanol, which is produced from fossil fuels and has a high and consistent quality.  It is used in the industrial market, mainly in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, inks and industrial chemical products e.g. screen wash, paint thinners, detergents etc.

IEA Secretary General Emmanuel Desplechin said “IEA will strive to promote the European ethanol market and through dialogue create a level playing field for companies operating in Europe.”
