UK Secretary of State Alistair Darling an announced that from 2008, 2.5 per cent of all road fuel must come from renewable sources.
Alistair Darling said: “Five per cent of all fuel sold on UK forecourts will be required to come from a renewable source by 2010, saving around 1 million tonnes of carbon a year".
 
Alistair Darling announced in December that from 2010, 5 per cent of all fuel sold on UK forecourts will have to come from a renewable source. In last week’s budget it was revealed that a Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) will initially be introduced in 2008 and will require 2.5 per cent of road fuel to come from renewable sources, with the percentage rising to 3.75 in 2009.
