Governments and industry to meet to look at renewable energy |

Later this month a Crans Montana High Level Panel "From Fossil to Renewable Energy – the Challenge of the 21st Century" will take place in Geneva. The event, organised by the Crans Montana Forum, in close association with the United Nations Industrial Development Association (UNIDO), is designed to stimulate international debate, further the understanding of complex development challenges and promote exchange of experience and best practices in the field of energy.
The event will take place in the main hall of the United Nations’ Palais des Nations and will be chaired by Mr. Kandeh Yumkella, Director General of UNIDO and Mr. Sergi Ordzhonikidze, Director General of the United Nations. The major themes of the forum include:
- Fossil fuels, deforestisation and greenhouse gases: climate change
- Energy security - the need for governments to make long term choices
- The challenge of the shift to renewable energy
- Ensuring energy efficiency through energy savings and technologies
- Financing the transition to renewable energy
- Rebewable energy and economic growth
- Solar energy, hydro electricity, wind energy and biofuels
The importance of the Forum can be judged from the list of attendees which reflects a wide range of high level interest from governments, industry, NGOs and academics.
